What a survey measures
Resistivity and electromagnetic methods read how easily current passes through the ground. Fracture zones that hold water read differently from solid rock, which is how a point is chosen.
What it cannot do
No instrument sees water directly. Anyone promising a guaranteed yield before drilling is selling confidence, not geology.
When it pays for itself
On large plots, in hard-rock pockets, and after a previous dry bore. One avoided dry bore usually costs more than ten surveys.
